At Hunton, we adopt a mastery approach to the teaching and learning of mathematics. We have found this approach has enhanced mathematical understanding, enjoyment and achievement.
This has involved slowing down teaching the coverage of the curriculum in mathematics. By covering each strand of the maths curriculum in more detail, it has allowed our pupils to gain a more in depth understanding, especially in Number and Place Value.
Those pupils who are struggling with a particular area of the maths curriculum have that valuable extra time to gain the understanding, as opposed to moving on regardless, and those pupils who have gained the basic understanding have the opportunity to go in depth; giving them a richer and deeper learning experience.
