At Hunton, we encourage our children to use TT Rockstars to improve times tables knowledge in a fun and engaging way.

Our vision: live ‘Life in all its Fullness’ encourages children to be resilient and show perseverance in their maths learning to prepare them for our inclusive, ambitious mathematics curriculum.

At Hunton, we use the White Rose scheme of learning, which focuses on a mastery approach, encouraging deep understanding and retention of concepts. We have a calculation policy that embeds a Concrete > Pictorial > Abstract approach that carefully sequences the methods taught for the four operations.

Year R use the Mastering Number resources, and, in addition to White Rose, Year 1, 2 and 3 also engage in the Mastering Number programme to develop foundational number sense.

We use the NCETM’s Ready to Progress materials. Teachers prioritise number and place value but also ensure a breadth of coverage. Teachers are encouraged to identify mathematical links across the curriculum. For example, during a geography topic involving graphs, the teacher will ensure that the children have the mathematical knowledge needed and will teach this concept in advance of the geography topic.
