Spelling & Phonics
To deliver an engaging literacy curriculum, that promotes children’s love for reading and enhances their written and oral communication.
At Hunton, we adopt the Letters and Sounds programme for the teaching and learning of phonics.
We encourage the importance of accurate spelling at Hunton CEP School and aim to promote a sense of pride of correct spellings across the school. Spelling is taught as discrete lessons and words are grouped in logical ways in order to promote pupils to identify spelling patterns and purposeful strategies to aid them with their spellings. In EYFS and KS1 this is done through grouping words that contain the same grapheme; in KS2 they are grouped according to the same suffixes and prefixes, as well as spelling rules such as: drop the 'e' and add -ing.
