Bannerman Class
Our class is named after Henry Campbell-Bannerman (1836-1908), the son of Sir James Campbell, and became leader of the Liberal Party between 1899 and 1908, and the Prime Minister between 1905 and 1908. He lived in Hunton Court estate. Hunton was one of the first places to receive a telephone as Henry Bannerman was of high importance.
Key information
In Bannerman class we have class text each term for our English lessons and follow the Little Wandle scheme for our phonics and spelling lessons. We use the white rose scheme to sequence our maths learning and enjoy immersing ourselves in every area of the KS1 curriculum. Our PE days are on Monday and Wednesday. Our homework is given out on a Friday and needs to be returned on a Wednesday. Spelling tests are on a Friday morning.
The Phonics Screening Check is a short assessment for Year 1 children to check their ability to use phonics to read words. It takes place in June and helps teachers identify children who may need extra support with reading. Children are asked to read 40 words, some real and some made-up, using their phonics skills. It’s carried out in a relaxed, one-to-one setting with a teacher they know.
